Jamaat leaders beaten up in UNO room: Notices issued to four BNP leaders in Pabna
Four BNP leaders have been given show cause notices in connection with the beating of Jamaat leaders in the Sujanagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) room in Pabna. This information was given in a press release signed by central BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday night.
The notices were received by former Sujanagar Upazila BNP youth and sports secretary Mujibar Rahman, joint convener of the municipal Jubo Dal Babu Kha, BNP leader Mohammad Manik Kha and Sujanagar NA College Chhatra Dal president Shakil Khan.
The notice mentions the names of the four leaders and says, “Four people have been given notices to show cause within the next 24 hours for entering the office of the Sujanagar Upazila UNO under Pabna district, creating a ruckus, chaos and behaving indecently and arrogantly towards the local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.”
In this regard, Sujanagar Upazila BNP convener ABM Toufiq Hasan said that such incidents in a government office are regrettable. After receiving the notice, the four party leaders have been asked to respond quickly.
In this regard, UNO Mir Rasheduzzaman said, the incident is very distressing. The matter has been reported to the higher authorities. Further legal action will be taken after receiving instructions.
Last Monday afternoon, four party leaders including Upazila Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Farooqui Azam went to UNO Mir Rasheduzzaman’s office. They were waiting as the UNO was busy. At that time, some BNP leaders and activists led by former Upazila BNP Youth and Sports Secretary Mujibur Rahman entered the office. They became agitated seeing Jamaat leaders sitting in the office. An argument broke out between the two parties over the matter. After that, BNP leader Mujibur Rahman left the room and called other party leaders and activists. Then he entered the room again and beat up the Jamaat leaders in front of the UNO. On receiving the information, the police went and brought the situation under control. Later, the UNO office workers rescued the four injured and took them to the Upazila Health Complex.
No legal action had been taken in the attack till Wednesday afternoon. UNO Mir Rasheduzzaman said, the incident is very painful. The matter has been reported to the higher authorities. Further legal action will be taken after receiving instructions.
